Yokohama – Minato Mirai

This view has brought me back to Yokohama again and again.

I used to stand on the Bankoku Bridge for it. From there the view ran across the water to the Landmark Tower, the Ferris wheel and the bright Anniversaire building.

Minato Mirai by day: the Ferris wheel and the Anniversaire building.

Many of my frames from those years were made deep at night, some of them in black and white.

This time I wanted colour. And the transition in which the sky is still blue and the harbour already glows.

The familiar position no longer existed. A cable car now crosses this line of sight.

I went down to the quay wall. There the tripod stood steadier than on the swaying bridge, right at the water.

The November sky was clear, with only a few clouds. I waited for the balance: still life around the harbour, still light in the sky.

Out of many frames, one remained.

Over the years further pictures have been made from the Landmark Tower, by day as well. They accompany this work.
