BC Place

The day belonged to Granville Island. The evening had belonged to another place since the morning.

I knew where I wanted to be: at False Creek, looking at BC Place, straight toward the setting light.

So I set off early, on foot.

On the way to the spot: evening cloud and boats on False Creek.

The walk was part of it. Evening light lay over the harbour, red and magenta veils of cloud, boats on the water.

At my spot I first just stood there. I almost forgot to photograph.

Then routine set in. Tripod, aligning the camera, bracketed exposures, checking, waiting.

False Creek later in the evening.

In a short time the whole mood changed. The blue grew deeper, the windows began to glow, the reflections in the water grew longer.

At some point I stopped asking whether I had a picture. Only which one.

I would have liked to stay. But a few minutes away the next motif was waiting, and the blue hour waits for no one.
