The Artist

More than a photograph.

The Artist

Images that connect.

I photograph to explore, to understand, and to celebrate the remarkable beauty of our shared world. Different cultures, unfamiliar places and the people I meet along the way continue to inspire my journey.

What moves me

The light that connects us.

I am moved by the moment a place becomes more than a place: when stillness becomes tangible, when light breaks through the clouds and, for one breath, everything else grows quieter. I photograph because in such moments I recognise something that connects us, across countries, languages and cultures. To me, these images are not decoration. They are memory, longing, comfort and hope. They should open a space in which we see the world a little more consciously, more colourfully, more hopefully.

1. The Vision

More than a photograph

I am not drawn to the famous place, but to the moment when it changes. Mountains, lakes, temples and skylines have been photographed a thousand times. Yet light, clouds, water and atmosphere never repeat. My subjects range from the Canadian Rockies through Japan and Tokyo at night to modern architecture, in colour as well as black and white. What connects them is the light. I look for the constellation of place, perspective, weather and light in which something special emerges. That is Expedition in Light to me.

2. The Journey

The search is part of the work

A picture begins long before the camera: with maps, seasons, the position of the sun and an idea of the light. On location, everything is often different. Clouds roll in, the light stays away, the planned perspective doesn't work. Then all that remains is to wait, to change something, or to come back. I have visited some places several times over the years. Patience is not a romantic extra for me but a practical necessity: you cannot order the decisive moment.

3. From Vision to Artwork

Not every shot becomes a work

Pressing the shutter does not finish a picture, and a technically good shot is not yet a work of art. After the journey comes a second selection: which composition holds, and which image still stands after the first impression? Only then does the development of light, colour, contrast and tonality begin, sometimes also the decision for black and white. The editing should not invent anything, but make visible the moment I experienced. I don't want to make an image more spectacular than the moment was.

4. Limited Editions

A work should remain special

My works are meant to be physical fine art. Material, format and presence in a room are part of it, because a screen cannot convey how a large-format work feels in a space. That is why they are released in limited editions: not to create artificial scarcity, but because a work should not be endlessly reproducible. Each copy carries its own edition number and comes with a certificate of authenticity that I sign personally.
